CONVERSATION WITH MARIE-JOSÉ MONDZAIN AND CHRISTIAN LUTZ ON THE BANNING OF THE BOOK IN JESUS’ NAME

In late 2012, when the book “In Jesus’ Name” was about to be published, 21 members of the congregation of the Evangelical Church of Zurich, the subjects of Christian Lutz’s series of photos making up the book, filed suit for damage to their personal image and were able to block publication, despite the fact that the photographer had obtained their consent prior to taking their photographs. Although the complaints were dismissed in September 2014, the case is generally considered the first major suit in Switzerland concerning the droit à l’image, the right of image.
